InternetSat completes the delivery of a Mobile Connectivity Unit (MCU) at Guarulhos International Airport in São Paulo for one of the world's largest airlines. The solution was designed to meet the critical demands of aircraft maintenance operations directly on the airport runway, offering high availability, mobility, security, and performance.

Overview

The company is the largest airline in Canada and currently ranks 19th in the world in terms of passengers transported per year, in addition to having the 12th largest fleet on the planet. With a presence in Brazil for almost four decades, it concentrates its operations at São Paulo International Airport in Guarulhos (GRU), from where it offers daily flights to Canada. Globally recognized, it is also among the safest airlines in the world.

Sobre a UMC

UMC integrates low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite connectivity, capable of delivering speeds exceeding 200Mbps, with a professional long-range (IP68 standard) Wi-Fi6 access point device, offering comprehensive coverage and enabling immediate communication between teams and systems, even in large areas far from traditional network infrastructure.

Security and centralized management with fortinet®

The project also incorporates advanced local area network and Wi-Fi management with Fortinet® technology – a global leader in security and performance – ensuring security, stability, and centralized control of all access. This combination enables not only high operational performance but also protection against cyber threats, an essential factor for critical operations in the aviation sector.

The solution will allow maintenance teams to perform inspections, diagnostics, and system updates directly on the runway, without needing to travel to areas with fixed network infrastructure. Furthermore, the high speed and stability of the LEO satellite link ensure that critical maintenance and logistics systems operate in real time, reducing delays and increasing aircraft availability.

With these tools, the company now offers 100% network availability, a significant improvement compared to the past, when connectivity problems were frequent and constantly impacted operations and business.

Fortinet® Visibility and Resources

  • 1. FortiManager

The company was also looking for a tool to consolidate connectivity and network infrastructure management. InternetSat then decided to use FortiManager as an orchestrator for all Fortinet solutions. “We really needed complete infrastructure management. Fortinet allows us to have a unified environment that meets the operational needs of our client,” says Gilmar Souza, Sales and Marketing Manager at InternetSat. With FortiManager, the company can now also see specific details such as network status, who is connecting, or even the connection level of a device in real time.

  • 2. FortiAnalyzer

The power generator also added the FortiAnalyzer log management solution to its network infrastructure, a tool for analysis and report generation aimed at preventing external attacks. By having complete network visibility from a single point, the company reduced the time spent identifying problems by 90%, bringing together all network and security visibility in a single technology dashboard. With previous systems, the IT team did not know who was connected or what was being done on the network – which constantly put critical information and applications at risk.

  • 3. FortiClient

InternetSat also ensured, through FortiClient, secure access for users, enabling the company to monitor cloud systems remotely in real time. Centralized network management increased the client's efficiency in troubleshooting. In the event of a problem, the IT team can quickly access any point on the network and immediately make the necessary adjustments, saving not only time but also travel costs and increasing the productivity and well-being of the IT team. Furthermore, the company can now manage access policies, software updates, and security rules for multiple devices from a single location.

  • 4. Fortinet Security Fabric

By integrating the tool into the Fortinet Security Fabric platform, the client began to obtain detailed reports that help them discover potential threats and make centralized, real-time decisions.

  • 5. SOC (Security Operations Center)

“With Fortinet, the reach in security, access control, orchestration, standardization, management, visibility, and network monitoring from our SOC (Security Operations Center) allowed us to advance and take our client's operations to the next level,” says Gilmar Souza, Sales and Marketing Manager at InternetSat.

#OPERATIONAL IMPACT

With this solution, the airline will have instant communication between ground crews and command centers, optimized maintenance workflow, and reduced response time in critical procedures.

Strategic partner

With this latest project, InternetSat reinforces its position as a strategic partner for large corporations in sectors that demand robust, secure, and highly available connectivity.

Mission-critical environments

InternetSat has established itself as a benchmark in solutions for remote environments and critical operations.

“This delivery represents a milestone for connectivity in airport operations. By combining mobility, ultra-high-speed connectivity, and secure network management, InternetSat's UMC has managed to bring communication and data to areas where there was previously no reliable coverage, that is, directly to the aircraft maintenance area within the airport. This means greater agility, security, and efficiency for one of the world's largest airlines.”
